NEWS//China’s air quality
As China has industrialized, air quality in its cities has diminished. But that is changing. According to China.org, in 2019, the nation’s air quality is showing continued improvement. This is due in large part to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE)’s efforts to increase environmental protections.
Air quality is improving
Those efforts intensified in July. China.org reports that the MEE vowed to launch a new round of environmental inspections. Their inspectors will oversee six province-level regions, as well as two centrally-administered state-owned enterprises.
But severe pollution continues
Nonetheless, air quality in China’s super-cities is less than optimal. Travel China Guide’s graphic demonstrated that central China, as well as eastern and south China, “are the most affected districts, especially the Yangtze River Delta including Shanghai. Not without consequence, this air pollution map is almost the same as the map of China’s population distribution. The air quality is good in most part of northern and northwest China. Furthermore, the hazy weather has obvious seasonal characteristic, which usually occurs in the autumn and winter.”
