MINISTRY//Celebrating Christmas in China

Yesterday (December 22) was the day Chinese Christians came together to celebrate Christmas. Why? Because December 25 is a normal workday.

A number of 316NOW’s Chinese friends have sent us photos and videos of their celebrations. We wish we could share that media with you. But that would risk exposing our friends. (However, we have attached public domain photos from other sources. You can see them below.)

When our Christian friends gathered on Sunday, their services packed with music, dancing, presentations, choirs, and, of course, the pastor’s Christmas message.

Their services did not include a pipe organ. Electronic keyboards led worship. Other instruments, too. Recorded Christian music helped lead the choirs and other singers.

Christians of various ethnicities attended. They dressed in their brightly-colored ethnic costumes.

Very few children attended the services. Chinese law prohibits their attendance.

For all of our friends, Christmas’ good news of great joy rang out yesterday. Believers – and the friends they brought with them – celebrated the Savior’s birth. God willing, today there are more Christians in China than before the weekend.
