DEVOTION//All things are possible
"What are you doing?" My young grandson asked.
"I'm going to syphon gas from the lawnmover into this gas can so it's ready for winter. All I'm going to use is the small plastic hose."
"No. That's not possible."
"Sure it is. I'll pour gas into one end of this plastic tube and put my finger on the end of the tube so it doesn't run out. Then I'll put the other end into the lawnmower's gas tank before I drop this end into the gas can. The gas will flow -- on its own -- from the lawnmower into the gas can."
"No, it won't. You’re kidding me."
"Trust me. You trust me to take good care of you, right?"
"Yes."
"You trust me to feed you nourishing food, right?"
He gave me a head nod.
"Then trust me when I tell you this will work."
Moments later gas was flowing into the gas can. And grandpa became more trustworthy than ever before.
God has given us the ultimate sign that he is trustworthy. "The Lord himself will give a sign for all of you. Look! The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and name him Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14).
Jesus' virgin conception -- where the eternal God united himself with a human being so the world could have a Savior from sin -- is a sign that guarantees he will keep every one of his promises.
Christmas demonstrates that God is always trustworthy. Especially when it seems to us he can't keep his promises. Jesus' birth -- not to mention his death and resurrection -- assure that “with God all things are possible."
