NEWS//Huawei and 5G

Huawei is China's gigantic telecom equipment manufacturer. Recent events highlight that Huawei continues its planet-wide growth trajectory.

The Xinhau news agency reported on June 7, 2019 that the company has obtained 46 commercial 5G contracts in 30 countries. It has shipped more than 100,000 5G base stations, ranking top in the world, according to the company. In addition, Huawei is one of the world's major smartphone brands.

On June 6, China granted commercial-use 5G licenses to China Broadcasting Network and the country's top three telecom operators -- China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom. In a nation of 1.4 billion, this is remarkable news for Huawei because it will supply those companies with 5G technology and equipment.

Huawei has been in the news in the United States recently because our government considers the company a front for the spying activities of China. The CIA has accused Huawei of receiving funding from China’s National Security Commission, the People’s Liberation Army, and a third branch of the Chinese state intelligence network. The U.S. has blacklisted the company and is working to convince European countries to do the same.
