NEWS//Christian bookseller jailed
Persecution.com reported on October 2 that an online Christian bookstore owner in Taizhou City, China has been found guilty of "illegal business operations" and was sentenced to seven years in prison. In addition, he was fined almost $30,000 and his phone was confiscated.
The government seized 12, 864 Christian books from his bookstore and destroyed them. The police are also tracking down the bookstore’s customers through sales records . When found, the police confiscate the books they purchased.
Gina Goh, International Christian Concern regional manager for Southeast Asia says, "The sentence for Mr. Chen Yu shows how the Chinese government is increasingly frightened by all things religious. From religious symbols, Chinese couplets, to Christian books, anything that features religious elements is no longer tolerated by the Chinese Communist Party.” Goh predicted, "The crackdown against Christianity will only intensify."
