DEVOTION//One way to heaven
A number of years ago while talking with a cousin I asked him how he thought anyone could get to heaven. His answer: There are any number of ways to be right with God. We Christians have one way; the Buddhists have another; the Moslems another."
Many people agree with my cousin.
A comfortable solution
That's understandable. It's comfortable to trust it doesn't matter what you believe about God as long as you are sincere in your faith-system. It's comfortable because that way, everyone is correct. Everyone can have a right relationship with God no matter who God is.
But as comfortable as people find that theology, it's simply not logical.
An illogical solution
No one believes that every bus will take us where we want to go. We understand that, if we get on a bus that's going in the wrong direction, we will end up far from our desired destination.
No one believes that every approach to staying physically fit improves their health. We understand that watching -- but not working along with -- exercise videos on YouTube or pigging out on candy bars will not produce a buff body no matter how many people promote those exercise regimens.
When it comes to who God is and how he relates to us, it is logically impossible for everyone to be right -- no matter how many people put "co-exist" bumper stickers on their cars.
Jesus is the solution
The Son of God who invaded our planet 2000 years ago in order to open heaven to sinful human beings tells us, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
That's why it’s imperative that we Christians share that good news with everyone in our lives. Especially those who are sure their faith in their god is all they need to be right with the real God.
With whom will you have that conversation today?
