MINISTRY//Questions do not stay for the night
I would never have put it that way. When we asked one of our students what stands out for him about the Bible institute classes, the answer was:
“Questions do not stay for the night.”
In other words, our students don’t have to wait for an answer to their questions. Our professors provide clear answers to students’ questions. On the spot.
For many of our students, that has not been their experience with Chinese teachers. In fact, teachers in China can feel a loss of face if their students ask questions. For that reason, students avoid asking questions.
That’s not the way our professors teach. They encourage students to give voice to all their questions. And our professors encourage students to engage in conversation about the class material. Our professors want to be sure their students understand what they are being taught.
Of course, if it happens that our professors don’t have a suitable response to a question, they never guess at an answer. They research the best answer and report back to their students.
But, even if an occasional question requires additional research, our faculty is pleased to know that their students appreciate that “questions do not stay for the night.”
