MINISTRY//COVID-19 lessons

In the United States, churches are scrambling for ways to meet the spiritual needs of their members while we live under the restrictions of COVID-19.

Churches in China are two months ahead of us in adapting to these changes. Among the Christians 316NOW works with, we have heard of these approaches.

  • We have adjusted the way we worship. People are not allowed to gather in groups for any reason. We have begun offering online worship services.

  • I used to help lead worship once a month. Now because we have online worship, I help out every week.

  • I had been going to worship every Sunday. Now I am going to worship online.

  • We no longer make visits to members and others. We do use the telephone for communication.

  • Nowadays, there are many online worship services and Bible studies. Those who were not very involved now learn to participate online.

  • We have begun to ask a lot of questions in our online classroom. We are studying the book of Acts together. Everyone has slowly adapted to asking questions and giving answers.

  • At first, we tried to get everyone together using Skype on our cell phones. That was chaotic. Now we’ve learned to do it better.

  • Because the schools are not open, some people have to take care of the children and grandchildren at home. That means some Christians cannot participate in Bible studies.

  • Christians are finding is if difficult to adjust to online worship and Bible if they don’t participate regularly.

What you can do: Ask the Spirit to help Christians around the globe to take full advantage of the opportunities COVID-19 is offering the Church to improve and expand its ministry.
