DEVOTION//What a champion!
At the top of his career, boxing champion Mohammad Ali boasted, “I’m so mean, I make medicine sick.”
At the top of another champion's career, his boast could have been, "I'm so good, I make sin disappear."
The Bible says about the Son of God who came to earth to be our Savior,
He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” (1 Peter 2:22).
We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin (Hebrews 4:15).
You know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin (1 John 3:5).
Jesus's life was perfectly sinless. And the news gets better. This sinless God-man, this champion, shares his sinlessness with us.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).
This champion gives us his perfection. This holy champion gives us his righteousness. This champion was so good, he makes sin disappear. He makes our sin disappear.
In Jesus, we have the righteousness of God. What a champion!
