MINISTRY//Our kind of leader

MINISTRY//Our kind of leader

"The leaders we develop must be willing to take risks for their members."

Improving our curriculum

This morning I met with our administrators for our Education Division, our Mentoring and Counseling Ministry Division, and our liaison. We talked about developing Christian church leaders in China who will help develop a Confessional Lutheran movement there.

You won't be surprised that we all agreed that we want the leaders we train to be firmly committed to sound Bible teaching. We discussed ways we can continue to improve our curriculum so our students properly understand the Scriptures and are able to share and model those truths. We also agreed that we can't be satisfied to teach individuals. We need to provide consulting help to the groups our students serve.

A different kind of leader

Then one of our team members reminded us that Christianity in China is faced with challenges that are much different than churches in North America face. The Chinese government continues to exert increasing control over the Church. Church leaders must not only fully know and proclaim Scripture truths; they need remarkable courage to lead their flocks in the face of communist government oversight.

"The leaders we develop must be willing to take risks for their members," he said. "Leaders must be willing to stand up for the Christians under their care. They must fearlessly shepherd the sheep the Savior has given them."

Only by grace

To that we also agreed. Then we humbly turned to our God and his powerful Spirit to raise up such leaders through us.
