NEWS//Christians Arrested

The arrests of two Chinese Christian church leaders were formalized and five more were arraigned on December 28, 2021. They have been charged with “illegally crossing the border” into China and with “smuggling illegal literature” into China.

All seven attended conferences hosted by Tang Chongrong, a well-known Chrinese evangelist. The conference was in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. They legally used their passports to enter Malaysia and to return home to China. When they returned to China, they brought with them some of Tang's books.

Bitter Winter, a human and religious rights watchdog, commented: “These arrests highlight the impunity of the Chinese government in its efforts to transform Christianity into a tool of the state and are yet another instance in a very long series of the persecution of Christians in China by governing officials.”
