NEWS//Now there are five
China is increasing the faith requirements for Party members
“The whole party must firmly uphold confidence in the path, in the theory and in the institutions [of socialism with Chinese characteristics].”
Thus spoke outgoing Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Hu Jintao in November 2012. His three "confidences" were the core values that every party member was to hold sacred.
• Confidence that that CCP is on the right path.
• Confidence that the CCP holds to the correct theory of government.
• Confidence that the CCP is led by the correct system of government.
Confidence #4
Two years later, a fourth "confidence" was added. From that time forward, every CCP member was to be thoroughly confident "not only in the rightness of its policies, governance, and theoretical foundations but also in its identity – to be found in a combination of 5,000-odd years of Chinese culture and the rich revolutionary legacy of the CCP itself." (China Media Project).
Confidence #5
Now a fifth "confidence" has been unveiled. During this year that the CCP marks its 100th birthday, Chinese Communists are now to have confidence in the history of China and Chinese Communism -- a history as told by the CCP. The latest confidence is historical confidence.
