MINISTRY / Covid in China

MINISTRY / Covid in China

Covid is rampaging through China. Earlier this month, China dismantled its zero-tolerance approach to Covid by removing all testing mandates and other Covid restrictions. Since then multiple millions have become infected.

Some predict one million will die because of it. Western news sources report on overwhelmed hospitals and crematoriums.

Covid and my Chinese friends

The Chinese friends I am regularly in contact with have put a face on this surge in infections.

One appealed for prayers for her son because he was battling Covid. Another friend who is in his thirties reported how Covid sidelined him from his teaching position for 10 days. Another friend, also in her thirties, wrote about her fever, sore throat, tiredness, and blurry thinking.

Another friend said, “Last week had been the hardest week for me in 2022. My whole family was infected with Covid. My son got it the worst. I could not move my fingers for one whole day. My wife was sick in another city so my body and soul were in bad shape. But, praise God, we have come through it.”

Covid: a call to prayer

A CNN report claims there were 250 million Covid-19 infections in China during December. The experiences my friends had with Covid have been multiplied hundreds of millions of times over these last weeks. Deaths from Covid have caused grief for multi-millions.

Please pray about the impact of Covid across China. Ask for healing, but pray especially that the Spirit would use the pandemic to strengthen Christians in their faith and would open hundreds of millions of hearts to “good news of great joy” that God loves them more than they could ever measure.
