MINISTRY//Spies

Spies.

We and our students are on the alert for new classmates who are spies. We expect that, from time to time, some people will want to attend our classes not to learn, but to be able to report the names and contact information of fellow students to government officials.

But those are not the only type of students who misuse our classes.

A teaching disruption

Recently, a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) joined one of our courses. Normally, that would be fine with us. We are happy to teach sound doctrine to anyone who wants to learn. But this student had another agenda.

During the classes, the student seemed to listen and agree with what our professor shared. But after the class, the SDA student contacted his classmates to insist that real Christians will obey Sabbath laws, gives tithes, and honor the laws the Old Testament laid down.

A teaching opportunity

When the professor heard what was happening between classes, he took time with his students to study the freedom Jesus has won for us from Moses' laws. In addition, they talked about how the gospel rescues us from the demands of the law and allows us to rest in God's grace.

Our liaison reports, "This was a really good challenge to help our students grow in faith and to practice for their ministries."
