DEVOTION / How powerful is God?

DEVOTION / How powerful is God?

How powerful is God?

Like Superman, is he "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound"?

Yes. All that and incalculably more.

God’s unimaginable power

Consider Ephesians 3:20 where Paul praises God as the one "who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…."

Read those words again. Slowly.

God is able to do whatever we ask of him. He is able to do more than we could ask of him. He is able to do more than we could ever think to ask him. In fact, he can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.

The impact of God’s power on our lives

How powerful is God?

The power of his gospel resurrects us from spiritual death and gives us eternal life (Romans 1:16).

Because of his power, we find the strength to face life not only with complete endurance and patience but with joyful thanksgiving (Colossians 1:11,12).

The power of God's grace enables us to boast in our weaknesses because, no matter what our circumstances, his love for us is all-sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9 ).

By his power he will bring everything under his control; by that power he will resurrect us (Philippians 3:21)

The proof of God’s power

Ah, but none of that would bring us any comfort without the ultimate proof that our God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…."

Here's that proof: By his mighty strength, he raised his Son from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places…" (Ephesians 1:20). Also read 2 Corinthians 13:4.

How powerful is God?

The most compelling answer to that question is found in Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

May these days persuade you, as never before, that our God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…."
