MINISTRY / God is greater

China’s long-term goal: wipe out religion

"It is harder now than ever before to talk about Jesus online," a friend who lives in China told me last week. "The computers that control WeChat (China's favorite online platform) won't allow any messages that mention God."

"Even if I write something as simple as 'God bless you,'" he continued, "WebEx will not send the message."

Baby step by baby step, China's Communist Party tries to phalanx-march Christianity (and all other religions) toward annihilation.

God’s long-term goal: bring people to faith in his grace

That doesn't mean Christians haven't found workarounds. Today I received a WeChat message from another friend. She closed it "G.B."

God is greater is the motto we at 316NOW regularly remind ourselves of. That truth is essentially founded in the gospel. God's grace is greater than our sin and rebellion. Grace is greater than any human or demon effort that is determined to destroy it.

Do not fear, for I am with you, our God tells us. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).

God is greater. Buoyed by that truth, 316NOW continues to boldly proclaim God's grace across China — and wherever Chinese live in the world.
