In one of the cities where 316NOW has students, Christians are under surveillance by the local government.

The surveillance of Lutherans 

Among those Christians is a group of Lutherans. That Lutheran group has caught the attention of the authorities because of their connection with a Lutheran pastor who has spoken out against the Chinese Communist Party. Police monitor their phones and friends and track their whereabouts.

316NOW’s group on guard

Although these Christians have roots in Confessional Lutheranism, 316NOW's students have not associated with them. The reason for this lack of contact has little to do with a difference in doctrine. It has everything to do with guilt by association. If our students are deemed to be associated with anyone from the other Lutheran group, the government will surveil our students.

Our liaison is monitoring the situation. He is looking for opportunities to encourage members of that group. At the same time, he is on guard so he doesn't endanger himself or the people that he serves in that city for 316NOW.
