DEVOTION/Is there anything God can’t do?

Our God is a mighty God!

Is there anything the Lord can’t do? When we think of all that he created, the miracles he performed, and the plan of salvation he has given us, we must agree that there is no work too great for him to perform.

That was made very clear when the Israelites were wandering in the desert for forty years. Again and again, the Lord showed them he was the true God who had perfect control over everything. They saw his power in plagues and in parting the sea. They saw his might on the holy mountain. Yet even though he showed his almighty power many times, the people still suffered from weak faith. Every morning God sent them special food called manna, yet they still complained. Finally, the day came when they loudly whined that they didn’t have any meat to eat. They wished they were slaves in Egypt once again, where at least they had a few morsels of meat to enjoy. This deeply angered the Lord. Finally, he told Moses to feed them their precious meat! We see God’s anger in his words: Now the Lord will give you meat, and you will eat it. You will not eat it for just one day, or two days, or five, ten or twenty days, but for a whole month—until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it—because you have rejected the Lord, who is among you, and have wailed before him, saying, ‘Why did we ever leave Egypt?’ (Numbers 11:18-20).

But Moses told God that if he butchered every animal they had, there wouldn’t be enough meat to feed all of the Israelites. He asked God how he was supposed to feed all the people. The LORD answered Moses, ‘Is the LORD’S arm too short? You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you’ (Numbers 11:23).

Then it happened: A wind went out from the Lord and drove quail in from the sea. It scattered them up to (three feet) deep all around the camp, as far as a day’s walk in any direction.  All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers (Numbers 11:31,31).

God’s arm is never too short

Is God’s arm ever too short to heal a hurting child, to help a lonely mother, or to calm a troubled heart? God’s arms are long enough to help us in any situation. They’re even long enough to hug us and hold us when we need to feel his love. God once asked the prophet Jeremiah: Is anything too hard for me? Jesus tells us the answer: With God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
