Have you heard about the rare Superman comic discovered last year? 

The Nine Million Dollar Comic Book

A 1939 first-edition of Superman No. 1 turned up in a Northern California attic. It was found tucked beneath layers of faded newspapers and cobwebs in near-perfect condition. It sold at auction for $9.12 million dollars!

Superman was the first comic book superhero in America. His popularity has continued through the years. Fewer than 500 copies of those half-million comic books printed are thought to still exist. 

Back in 1939, you could pick up that comic book for pennies! What a contrast in value!

Price Versus Value

That story captured my attention as I considered the value of God’s Word. The Bible tells of the REAL SUPERMAN, not some fictional character. Jesus is the one who saved the whole world. Yet, too few see the value of his story. 

Lots of places offer FREE Bibles, yet the value of God’s Word is inestimable. Sadly, the power of this book is ignored or disregarded. Ponder these passages…

• Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged   
                                   sword.

• Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

• Matthew 4:4 – Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the
                                 mouth of God.'

• Ephesians 6:17 – And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the
                                    word of God.

• Romans 10:17 – So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

• Isaiah 40:8 – The grass fades; the flower falls, but the word of our God will stand forever.

 Considering Eternal Value

 Do you ever dream of what it be like to discover some valuable antique? If you do, you are not alone. Yet, we often need to be reminded that in Matthew 16:26, Jesus asks us, What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
