A Testimony of Perseverance from China
When the COVID-19 pandemic swept across China, life changed dramatically. Churches suspended in-person worship, government restrictions tightened, and opportunities for Christians to gather became increasingly limited. Yet, amid these challenges, one small fellowship group continued to gather around God's Word. A Christian sister who has faithfully served this group for many years recently reflected on what she witnessed during those difficult times.
Hunger for God’s Word
Our fellowship group began meeting before the COVID-19 pandemic, she explained. During the three years of the pandemic, many churches suspended in-person gatherings and moved their services online. Government restrictions were also very strict at times. Nevertheless, our small group continued meeting and studying together throughout that period.
What touched her most was not simply their determination to meet. It was their hunger for God's Word. I could see how eager the brothers and sisters were to hear God's Word and how much they treasured the opportunity to gather for Bible study and fellowship.
Their perseverance wasn't rooted in extraordinary human strength. Rather, God's Word was doing what he promises it will do: working in human hearts, strengthening everyday faith, and sustaining his children through difficult times. Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. (Romans 10:17, NIV)
God's Word Sustains His People
Over the years, this sister has witnessed something equally remarkable: spiritual growth. Some believers initially had only a limited understanding of Scripture. Others struggled with doubts and weaknesses in their faith. But through continued study, God patiently nurtured their faith, deepened their understanding, and strengthened their confidence in his promises. Gradually, I have seen them grow, step by step, she shared. Seeing this has brought me great joy and encouragement.
She also expressed heartfelt gratitude for the pastors and teachers of Grace Bible Institute (GBI), whose biblical courses and resources have helped her fellowship continue studying and sharing God's Word. This is why 316NOW's ministry matters.
Through online biblical education and faithful teaching, 316NOW helps equip Chinese Christians to grow in God's grace and share the life-giving message of Jesus with others.
The experience of this small fellowship reminds us of a beautiful truth: God's Word does not lose its power when circumstances become difficult. His promises remain certain. His grace remains sufficient. His Spirit continues working through the gospel. And wherever believers gather around His Word, even under difficult circumstances, God is faithfully building and preserving his church.
After persevering for so many years, we have all benefited greatly.
