DEVOTION / Follow those tracks!
Our church is located on the edge of town and surrounded by woods. After a good snowfall, it’s pretty easy to see all the tracks of the wildlife chasing around our campus. Deer, raccoons, mice, sandhill cranes, foxes, and more. Those tracks are pretty easy to follow. But once our preschoolers have recess out in the snow, those animal tracks are obliterated by hundreds of boot prints.
All tracks tell a tale…
Professional trackers can tell lots of things from the trails left behind by animals. They can tell what kind of animal left them. They can tell where squirrels have been playing, where rabbits are hiding, and when a hawk has attacked unsuspecting prey. The tracks of our preschoolers show how active their outdoor time was that morning.
What do your tracks say?
Around the world, many walkers and hikers use technology to trace their steps. It can be used to track mileage. It can be used as a safety precaution. It might be a way to record a person’s exercise progress. Whether or not you monitor your steps, it might be a good exercise to ponder what a map of your life looks like.
Jesus calls us to follow Him! If you were tracked, would you be found walking to worship, church activities, Bible studies, and the like? Or would your steps find you other places that maybe you aren’t so proud of?
As followers of Jesus, we want our steps to lead heavenward. We want them to reveal how much Jesus loves them and want them to be His followers as well. Let your actions leave tracks that tell his story.
In his steps…
Jesus steps took him to serve others and ultimately to the cross for us. His sinless steps accomplished what we could never do. He redeemed us from the many times that our steps strayed from God’s ways. He cleaned up our mess by dying for our sins and rising again to save us from the desperate path on which we had found ourselves.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, millions in our world are walking the path to eternal destruction, lost in their sins. Thank you for coming to our world, calling us to faith, and walking with us on life’s highway. Help us to point others to your saving way.
