God knows
More often than not, parents know a lot more about their children than they think they do. Parents can sense when their children are hiding something; when they’ve told a lie, or when they are doing something they shouldn’t. Parents are given a special ability to read their children’s actions and words.
The Bible tells us that God knows everything about us. When Jesus was beginning his ministry, he met some of the early disciples and followers. Philip wanted to introduce Jesus to his companion, Nathanael. He said to him, We have found the Messiah. Come and let me introduce you to him. As they approached, Jesus said to Nathanael, You are the Israelite who is an honest man. Nathanael was startled. He looked at Jesus and asked, How do you know me? Immediately Nathanael knew that Jesus was true God because Jesus knew someone he had never met.
God knows everything about us!
How well does God know us? In Jeremiah 1:5 we read: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you. And Psalm 139:15,16 says: My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. . . your eyes saw my unformed body. That means God knew us long before we were ever born. God knows exactly how many hairs are on our heads, our shoe size, and our favorite color.
Many people think they can say and do things that will never be found out. They think no one will ever know what happened. Like King David, they are fooling themselves. Even though they may deceive everyone around them, they cannot fool God. There is no way we can hide from God. Psalm 139 speaks about this: You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. . . Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there (Psalm 139:2-8).
We should be thankful that God knows us so well. God only wants what is best for his children. He carefully watches over us and never takes his eye off of us. His love is so great he monitors our words and thoughts as he guides us on the path to heaven. We join the psalm writer in rejoicing, You have searched me, LORD, and you know me (Psalm 139:1).
