A new executive director for 316NOW

Because 316NOW’s ministry is expanding, the way we organize for ministry must adjust; it must expand. Our current executive director position, a volunteer position, needs to expand into a full-time position.

To meet that need, 316NOW’s Board of Directors called Pastor Mark Wagner to become our first full-time executive director. On September 6, 2023, Pastor Wagner agreed to serve in this position.

Why a full-time executive director?

"Every growing ministry comes to a point where it must restructure if its work is to expand. 316NOW is at the point," says Executive Director Jim Aderman.

"Volunteerism is one of 316NOW's cherished core principles. Since 2005, the Spirit has provided us with remarkably capable men and women who volunteered their skills and time to bring grace to the people of China.”

"The time has come, however, for the top leadership position at 316NOW to move beyond a retiree who volunteers his time. The ministry has expanded over the last decade. Our Bible institute remains strong and growing in spite of Chinese efforts to curtail it. We are about to launch an outreach program to the Chinese Christians who are part of the 50 million (!) expatriate Chinese who are scattered around the globe so those Christians can share Jesus with more of their countrymen and women."

Characteristics of our next executive director

Pastor Wayne Hilgendorf, the chairman of the Board, described the leader we were looking for this way, "We are seeking a Confessional Lutheran man with a gospel-directed heart for sharing the gospel on an international basis, with strong administrative skills, and with the ability to communicate the importance of our ministry to our friends and supporters."

Pastor Wagner checks all those boxes.

He has over forty years of experience as a parish pastor. In addition, he has served in kingdom service positions beyond his congregation, including as the chairman of his district home mission board. Until receiving 316NOW's call, Pastor Wagner thought he was settling into retirement after shepherding Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grafton, WI for 25 years. The Lord of the Church has different plans for him.

This fall and winter will be a time of transitioning into his new responsibilities. It’s a steep learning curve. Please keep Pastor Wagner in your prayers.
